THE WORD FOR THIS WEEK
Sunday: Romans 3:21-31
Monday: Romans 4:1-15
Tuesday: Romans 4:16-25
Wednesday: Romans 5:1-11
Thursday: Romans 5:12-21
Friday: Romans 6:1-14
Saturday: Romans 6:15-7:6
HOLY COMMUNION: During the service this morning at Zion, we will have the privilege of receiving the Lord’s Supper. May the Lord grant prepared hearts as we receive his body and blood with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of faith. VISITORS: If you wish to commune this morning, you are asked to speak with the pastor before the service.
NURSING HOME SERVICES: The service at the Wilber Care Center will be at 10:15 this morning. We will have our service at Tabitha in Crete on Monday at 10:00.
BIBLE CLASS: We will continue our Bible Class at St. John this morning, beginning at 10:00. As we continue our study of the book of Daniel, we will focus our attention on Daniel 8, where the vision Daniel had of a ram and a goat, which foretold the rise of Alexander the Great and the time between the Old and New Testaments.
CONFIRMATION CLASS: Confirmation Class will meet on Wednesday at 6:30.
BIBLE CLASS: We will begin a new Bible Class this Wednesday at 7:30. We see it everywhere: every form of school science curricula, presentations in national and state parks, educational shows on PBS and National Geographic TV channels, children’s books. The theories of evolution are set in front of us as irrefutable and unassailable fact. It can seem overwhelming for Christians who want to still hold to their beliefs in a personal God and the Bible. So what’s the “solution.” A commonly held supposed compromise is what is referred to as “theistic evolution”: accept all the tenets of evolutionary teaching and also hold that God merely “started it all.” The Bible study Elephants in the Room will help us see from Scripture how such a compromise leaves everything of evolution but leaves nothing of the gospel and God’s plan of salvation through Christ. Join us as we study God’s Word and grow not only in Scripture’s teaching about creation but God’s entire plan of salvation for us.
ANNUAL MEETINGS: The annual voters’ meetings for Zion and St. John will follow their respective services next Sunday.
NOMINATIONS: The following have been nominated for positions on the church council at Zion: Elder: Stewart Huneke and Don Kracke; Chairman: Russ Schuerman; Treasurer: Kevin Howat; Financial Secretary: Eric Kracke; Parish Education: Caden Kapke.
We thank these men for their willingness to serve.
LADIES AID: We will meet on Thursday, January 15, at 7:30.
